This trailer, shows great examples of iconography to show that it is a romantic film trailer, this can be identified through the strong, powerful voice over that draws attention to the key points of the film. It is also set by the beach, which symbolises that it is more likely to be a romantic film than a horror film for example, this is because the beach is associated with love and romance. There is also a small clip in the trailer of pouring rain, which again is associated with love, romance and sadness. The main conventions of iconography to show that it is a romantic film is of course due to the teenage boy and girl shown falling in love, due to the tears and intimacy between both characters to symbolise the romance theme.
The Lucky One Trailer
This trailer uses iconography to show the romantic theme, mainly due to the clips in the trailer clearly showing a man and woman falling in love, and the woman's ex-husband becoming involved and trying to break up the couple. Again, there is a lot of rain, tears and intimacy as there usually would be in a typical romantic film trailer.
Dirty Dancing Trailer
In the very old, classic romantic film trailer, it is clear to the audience that it is a romantic film, mainly due to the romantic theme song and slow motion dancing in black and white. It shows a lot of clips of intimate dancing between two characters falling in love and the powerful voice over, narrating the film trailer.
The Holiday Trailer
This film trailer is clear to the audience that it is a romantic film. It uses a lots of conventions of iconography, which causes the audience to identify the romantic theme. This film trailer clearly shows that the film is set at christmas time. The film trailer uses lots of red and 'christmassy' songs which shows that it is a romantic film, as these sort of conventions would not be used in a horror or action film. Clips of the films show two couples falling in love and the main house colour (red) is used a lot, which symbolises love and romance, with also very happy and at some points sad music relating to clips in the film trailer.
The Notebook
This classic, romantic film trailer uses a lot of conventions of iconography showing that it is a romantic film. There are clips shown of a couple falling in love, clips of pouring rain, love letters, tears and break ups, which all come together to symbolise the romantic theme of the film. The pouring rain is often used in romantic films to symbolise sadness as well as happiness between a boy and a girl falling in love.
